Multimedia: Mackey Arena Time Lapse

Here's the time-lapse from last Wednesday's Purdue basketball game against Penn State, for those who haven't seen it:

This project was a collaborative effort between me and Andy Hancock. The time lapse's various segments were photographed throughout the day and into the evening by myself and Andy, beginning several hours before the game and continuing until an hour or so afterwards.  Several of the shots in the video come from remote cameras (one of Andy's specialties), and the rest were photographed by myself and Andy throughout the game. Then came post-production, which like any other video or multimedia project, was the the most time consuming component of the the process. It took roughly 15 hours to build and edit the various time lapses in Final Cut Pro, and in adherence to Murphy's Law, trying to acquire licensed music that fits the final video didn't end up being a particularly easy process for us. Regardless, I think the final product came out very well, especially considering a lot of this was experimentation and very little editing time was available.  I hope you all enjoy it!

The Sledding Crew

Had a blast sledding with friends one late afternoon over winter break, and snapped this photo with my phone as the sun went down. It's been a bit quiet on the blog these past few weeks, but it's because I've been busy editing several very large and time consuming projects. More to come on those soon. Anyways, I've always loved the look of winter sunsets.  I absolutely love the way the cooler colors (like the purples and magentas here) pop.

Tech Notes: unedited iPhone 4 image.  Gotta love how today's cell phones have more resolution than my D2h...

Multimedia: Oh, The Weather Outside...

We had a rather nasty snowstorm blow through Purdue last week, right as final exams began. The snowfall wasn't especially heavy, but the 40+mph wind gusts made the conditions rather extreme. I grabbed my camera and wandered around campus and shot some footage and stills, and then cut together this short video. Hopefully you enjoy it. Happy Holidays!

If you want to watch it full screen or in HD, click the link below - it has better quality than the embedded video.

NCAA BBall: Purdue vs. Alcorn State

Here are some of my favorite images from shooting Purdue's game against Alcorn State on November 17th.  It was a great game to shoot - Purdue ran a very aggressive offense and won with a huge margin 103-48.

Flashback: Purdue vs. Minnesota

Finally caught up on some editing! Here are some of my favorite images from Purdue's homecoming football game against Minnesota in October. It was a gorgeous afternoon, and the Boilermakers won 28-17.

The last few weeks of warmth have passed...winter is here.

It's going to be an interesting couple of months. We're finishing up preproduction for a film I'm directing that will commence shooting in January. I'm looking forward to working with Eric Hulen, who we've casted for the leading role. Below are a few pictures from his screen test, which we shot a few weeks back. More details about the film will come later as we move into production.

On a separate note, there are no classes this week and I'm heading home for Thanksgiving break, so I'll finally have time to catch up on editing that's been piling up over the last few weeks...look for several updates in the next week or so!

Basketball Season Has Arrived!

The Purdue basketball season kicked off Tuesday night with the first pre-season game against the University of Indianapolis. Purdue has some very talented additions to the team, and it's going to be an interesting season as the team works to overcome their recently acquired underdog status. Some of my images from the game:
